Low explains why Leroy Sane has been left out of Germany's World Cup squad

Leroy Sane has been left out of reigning champions 23-man squad for this summer's World Cup.

The Manchester City star was a shock omission from Jogi Low's squad announced on Monday morning.

Leroy Sane was a regular for the world champions as they played through the qualifying stage, and he featured in Saturday's 2-1 defeat against Austria.

However, Low has dumped the 22-year-old PFA Young Player of the Year for the tournament in Russia, with Julian Draxler, Marco Reus and Julian Brandt preferred instead.

The German boss explained: "That was a very close decision between him and Julian Brandt, which was made in favor of Brandt. Draxler Reus and Müller are set. Leroy has a huge talent.

"He will be back again from September. He had not arrived in international matches yet. "

Sane scored 14 goals last season as City stormed to the Premier League title.
